The Marshes are an American punk band from Northampton, Massachusetts, formed in 1994 by Colin Sears (drums) and Emil Busi (bass, vocals), with Steven Wardlaw on guitar. Colin Sears is notably known for his work with Dag Nasty in the mid-1980s to early 1990s. The Marshes released their first self-titled EP in 1995, which led to a brief stint with Grass Records, a subsidiary of BMG, but they were quickly dropped due to lack of support. The band then signed with Dr. Strange Records, releasing *Pox on the Tracts* in 1997. After a hiatus, they returned in 2000 with *Recluse*, and later in 2010 for a reunion, releasing the single "Vicious Beast" / "Coney Island Whitefish" on Dr. Strange Records.
The Marshes' music often incorporates themes from HP Lovecraft's fiction, as seen in their album *Fledgling*. Over the years, the band members have pursued other projects: Colin Sears joined Handgun Bravado, Steven Wardlaw became part of The New Harmful and later formed So Very Small, while Emil Busi stepped away from the music industry during the band's hiatus. Despite their sporadic activity, The Marshes have maintained a loyal following and continue to be remembered for their unique blend of punk and literary influences.
