Varty Manouelian is an accomplished Armenian-born violinist known for her richly expressive playing and dedication to chamber music. She made her American debut in 1993 as the First Prize winner of the Bryan International Competition and has also earned accolades at several European competitions including the Kotzian and Wieniawski International Violin Competitions. Varty has performed as a soloist with orchestras across the U.S., Europe, and Armenia, and is a sought-after chamber musician, collaborating with renowned artists such as Joshua Bell, Yuja Wang, Kim Kashkashian, and members of the Juilliard and Guarneri string quartets. She has appeared at prestigious festivals like Marlboro, Apple Hill, and the Olympic Music Festival, showcasing her versatile artistry.
Beyond her performance career, Manouelian is a passionate educator serving as a Lecturer of Violin at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and teaching at the Colburn Academy and CSPA. She also coaches chamber music during summers at the Apple Hill Festival. Since 2004, she has been a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and frequently appears in their Chamber Music Society and Green Umbrella new-music series. Her recordings include a notable CD of the complete violin works of Stefan Wolpe, which was listed in the 2015 Top Ten by The Sunday Times in the UK. Varty holds degrees from the State Music Academy in Bulgaria and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied under Boyan Letchev and Donald Weilerstein. Outside music, she enjoys roasting coffee and hiking with her dogs.
