Alexandre Delgado

Alexandre Delgado is a Portuguese composer born in Lisbon in 1965. He is known for his orchestral and chamber works, which have been performed across Europe. Delgado began his musical studies with pianist Fátima Fraga and later studied chamber music and violin at the Fundação Musical dos Amigos das Crianças. He was a private pupil of Joly Braga-Santos and graduated in composition and violin from the Conservatório de Música in Lisbon. Delgado furthered his studies in composition with Jacques Charpentier in France. As a composer, he has won several awards, including the "João de Freitas Branco Award" in 1992. His notable works include the chamber opera "O Doido e a Morte," which premiered at the São Carlos Theatre in Lisbon in 1994. Delgado is also a music critic and has written extensively on Portuguese music, including a book titled "A Sinfonia em Portugal" published in 2001.

Delgado's involvement in music extends beyond composition; he is a skilled violist and has been a member of several orchestras, including the European Community Youth Orchestra and the Gulbenkian Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Lacerda String Quartet and has premiered several of his own works. His recent releases include "Armando José Fernandes: Sonatas," which features his performances, but it seems there might be some confusion with other artists regarding "Tropical Beats, Vol. 2." Delgado's work often explores traditional motifs with a contemporary twist, reflecting his deep understanding of Portuguese musical heritage.
