Larry Koonse

Larry Koonse is a celebrated jazz guitarist and educator based in Los Angeles, known for his lyrical playing and versatility across genres. With a career spanning decades, he’s collaborated with icons like Natalie Cole, Mel Tormé, and Alan Broadbent, blending straight-ahead jazz, contemporary improvisation, and inventive fusion. A first-call session musician, Koonse’s fluid technique and warm tone have graced countless recordings, soundtracks, and stages worldwide. When he’s not performing, he shares his expertise as a faculty member at the USC Thornton School of Music, mentoring the next generation of jazz artists.

His recent releases—like *Conversations*, *Can’t Help Falling*, and *Americana*—showcase his knack for reimagining classics and crafting original narratives through his guitar. Whether riffing on the cool vibes of *Blue Bossa* or exploring playful spontaneity in *What’s in the Box?*, Koonse’s work remains fresh yet deeply rooted in jazz tradition. Projects like *Wondrous Grace* and *Secret Tea* highlight his collaborative spirit, proving he’s as comfortable in intimate duo settings as he is leading a full ensemble.
