Essential Logic

Essential Logic was a groundbreaking post-punk band formed in 1978 by saxophonist and vocalist Lora Logic (born Susan Whitby), who first gained attention as a teenage member of X-Ray Spex. Blowing minds with their jagged art-punk energy, the group fused raw DIY ethos with avant-garde jazz sax squeals, spiky guitar riffs, and Lora's deadpan vocal delivery that felt both confrontational and playfully surreal. Though short-lived, their 1979 single "Aerosol Burns" and album *Beat Rhythm News* became cult classics, influencing generations of art-rock and no wave artists. After the band's initial split, Lora Logic continued collaborating with artists like Thomas Dolby and pursued spiritual jazz projects, while Essential Logic's music enjoyed renewed appreciation through reissues like the 2024 *Beat Rhythm News* deluxe remaster. Their recent remix collaborations with dance producers like Adamski and Dave Audé show how their gleefully chaotic sound still inspires genre-blurring experimentation.
