Novice

Novice is a melodic hardcore band from Grand Rapids, Michigan, formed in 2016. The band has released several notable works, including their self-titled album in 2019, the *War Within* EP in 2020, and more recently, the album *Sorrow & Surrender* in 2023. Novice's music style is heavily influenced by bands from the late '00s and early '10s post-hardcore scene, such as Modern Life is War and Verse. The band's sound is characterized by driving guitars and emotional lyrics, reflecting a strong melodic hardcore influence. After a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, Novice reformed in 2022 with vocalist Alex VanRavenswaay, guitarist/vocalist Cameron Lawson, drummer Matthew Brand, and bassist Justin Riley joining in 2023.
