Magic City Hippies began as a one-man band called Robby Hunter Band when frontman Robby Hunter was busking on the streets of Miami and got banned from playing on the corner of Lincoln Road and Jefferson Ave. To avoid the cops, he convinced the owner of a local dive to let his band play on their stage, sowing the first seeds of Magic City Hippies' infectious hip-hop-infused funk and pop. Joined by bandmates Pat Howard (drums) and John Coughlin (guitar), the trio has continued to captivate audiences with their groove-oriented sound.
Blending a heady mixture of indie-funk, neo-soul, and hip-hop, Magic City Hippies have spent the years honing a distinctly laid-back but dance-ready vibe in their music. They burst into the scene with their 2013 debut, "Hippie Castle EP," which included the beachy hit single "Fanfare." Since then, Magic City Hippies have been building a following with their energetic live shows, a string of catchy singles like "Queen" and "High Beams," and a full-length album, "Modern Animal," released in 2019. Their recent spate of singles and remixes, including "Water Your Garden" and the thoughtful "Ghost On The Mend," showcase the band's evolution and continued experimentation, mixing their signature sunshine sound with deeper emotional undertones.
