Pilar Fontalba is a highly accomplished oboist known for her expertise in both classical and contemporary music. She studied at Madrid High School and earned her Masters of Arts in Music Performance from the Zürich University of Arts under Professor Thomas Indermühle. Her talent was recognized early on by renowned oboist Heinz Holliger, which led to her participation in the Lucerne Academy Festival alongside Pierre Boulez and the Ensemble Intercontemporain. Pilar has performed as a soloist under Boulez's direction and has been a principal oboist in various European opera and symphony orchestras across Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland, and Germany. Since 2019, she has been teaching at Navarra High School and previously taught at Islas Baleares High School.
She is the solo oboe of the Symphony Orchestra Navarra and co-founded Ensemble Laboratorium, performing extensively in major contemporary music festivals across Europe and South America. Since 2006, she has been a member of Ensemble Phoenix in Basel, Switzerland, and she also contributes her talents to the Vertixe Sonora Ensemble, a Spanish group specializing in contemporary classical music. Pilar Fontalba's career is marked by a blend of performance, teaching, and active involvement in modern music circles, making her a respected figure in her field.
