Momoko Gill

Momoko Gill, also known as MettaShiba, is a self-taught drummer, producer, songwriter, and vocalist based in London. She has a rich multicultural background, having grown up between Japan, the US, and the UK, which influences her eclectic and boundary-pushing musical style. Momoko’s work spans alternative jazz, soul, hip-hop, and improvisation, and she is known for her intuitive approach to rhythm and composition. She has collaborated and toured extensively with notable London-based artists like Tirzah, Alabaster DePlume, Coby Sey, and poet/rapper Nadeem Din-Gabisi, with whom she formed the duo An Alien Called Harmony. Beyond collaborations, she is also writing her own solo album, showcasing her unique voice as a musician.

In 2025, she partnered with Matthew Herbert to release the album *Clay*, characterized by its experimental electronics and irregular rhythms, which reflect both artists’ innovative spirits. Momoko stepped into live shows with confidence and quickly made a significant impact as a versatile and sensitive drummer and vocalist. Her diverse skills and collaborations have established her as a distinctive presence in the contemporary UK music scene, blending traditional and experimental sounds in fresh and engaging ways.
