LIGHTS OUT ASIA was an American post-rock and ambient band that emerged from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the mid-2000s, known for their ethereal and emotive soundscapes. The group was formed by members Mike Ystad, Chris Schafer, and Mike Rush after the disbandment of their previous project, Aurore Rien. Combining layers of electronic textures, lush guitar melodies, and evocative vocals, LIGHTS OUT ASIA carved a niche for themselves in the post-rock genre with a blend of ambient music, shoegaze, and IDM influences.
Throughout their career, LIGHTS OUT ASIA released a series of acclaimed albums that showcased their ability to harness the power of atmospheric music to evoke intense emotions and create meticulously crafted sonic worlds. "Tanks and Recognizers" (2007) was their debut that set the tone for their aural explorations. They followed with "Eyes Like Brontide" (2008), which saw them expanding their sonic palette and gaining a wider audience. Their subsequent releases, "In the Days of Jupiter" (2010) and "Hy-Brasil" (2012), continued to refine their sound, further developing their distinct blend of ambient and electronic influences, culminating in the conceptual and enigmatic journey of "Garmonia" (2013). Despite their disbandment, the band has left a lasting impact on the post-rock scene with their unique sound and emotionally resonant compositions.
