Mehdi Qamoum is a talented musician from Agadir, Morocco, deeply rooted in traditional Gnawa music. Born in 1991, he was raised in a family immersed in this rich cultural heritage and began forming his own music groups at a young age. In 2006, he founded his first traditional music group, "Ouled Bambara," and later collaborated with Jazzawiya, a platform that has launched several notable artists. Mehdi is skilled in various folk instruments, including the guembri, karkabas, and bendir, and has even created his own custom 4-string electric guembri. His music often blends traditional Moroccan styles with modern elements of rock and blues, addressing social issues like poverty and discrimination.
Mehdi Qamoum has released notable works such as "MediCaments" in 2016. He has performed at numerous national and international festivals, including the Essaouira Gnaoua Festival, L’Boulevard in Casablanca, and the OneBeat residency in the US. His unique fusion of styles and commitment to social commentary have made him a standout figure in contemporary Moroccan music.
