Peter Spissky

Peter Spissky is a distinguished baroque violinist and conductor who studied violin at the Music Academy in Bratislava, Slovakia, and later at the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden, where he earned soloist diplomas in 1991 and 1995 respectively. Since 1999, he has been the concertmaster of Concerto Copenhagen, one of Europe's leading baroque orchestras, touring internationally and collaborating with renowned conductors. Beyond this role, he is the artistic director of Camerata Øresund, an ensemble featuring young Scandinavian early musicians, and appears regularly as guest concertmaster and conductor with various baroque and chamber orchestras across Scandinavia and beyond. He also performs as a violinist with groups such as Barokksolistene and the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra. In addition to his performing career, Peter Spissky is a respected educator teaching baroque violin at the Malmö Academy of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, giving master classes throughout Scandinavia. In 2017, he earned a PhD from Lund University with a thesis exploring baroque dance and violin bowing, highlighting his deep engagement with historical performance practice.

His recent releases, such as "In Wilhelmine’s Footsteps," showcase his commitment to early music and historically informed performance, which is also reflected in his leadership roles and scholarly research. He combines energetic live performances with academic insight, bridging the worlds of artistry and research in a very accessible way for audiences and students alike.
