Markku Klami

Markku Klami is a Finnish composer whose music moves gracefully between traditional and innovative styles, often painting with broad, emotive strokes. Born in Turku, Finland, Klami began his musical journey early, singing in his local cathedral choir before immersing himself in both the classical and contemporary music worlds. His work spans solo pieces, orchestral compositions, and operas, with a notable interest in blending conventional instrumentation with ambient electronic textures.

Klami’s music has been described as elegant, expressive, and at times breathtakingly beautiful. He’s composed widely, including recent releases like “Verweilen,” the live performance of “Göreme” for guitar and electronics, and the sound installation “Göreme Echoes,” which further develops his earlier material. Klami views composing as a deeply personal and therapeutic act, often reflecting on his own experiences of survival and hope. He also teaches and mentors young musicians, sharing his passion for the creative possibilities of music.
