The Electric Prunes

The Electric Prunes, an American psychedelic rock band formed in the Los Angeles area during the mid-1960s, are best known for their innovative and sonically adventurous approach to music during the formative years of the genre. Initially comprised of members James Lowe (vocals, autoharp), Ken Williams (lead guitar), Mark Tulin (bass), Michael Weakley (drums), and Dick Hargraves (keyboards), the group's fluctuating lineup over the years often centered around Lowe and Tulin as core members. The band's blend of garage rock energy with experimental use of guitar effects and studio techniques helped to cement their reputation within the burgeoning psychedelic scene.

Their 1966 single "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)" was their most successful hit, charting internationally and leaving an indelible mark on the psych-rock era. Following albums such as "Underground," "Mass in F Minor," and "Release of an Oath" underscored the group's willingness to push musical boundaries, including their exploration into religious rock with a mass composed by David Axelrod. Despite commercial pressures and lineup changes disrupting their initial run, The Electric Prunes have been recognized for their influence on psychedelic music, leading to a revival and tours in the late 1990s and early 2000s with albums like "Artifact" and "Feedback." Recordings like "Stockholm 67 (Live)" and various compilations such as "Then Came the Dawn: The Reprise Recordings 1966-1969" and "The Complete Reprise Singles" continue to preserve and showcase the band's seminal contributions to the genre.
