Daniel Raiskin is a highly acclaimed conductor known for his distinctive artistic style and broad repertoire. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, he studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and later in Amsterdam and Freiburg. Initially focusing on the viola, Raiskin was inspired to become a conductor after meeting Lev Savich and went on to study with notable conductors like Mariss Jansons and Neeme Järvi. He currently holds several prominent positions, including Principal Conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. Raiskin regularly performs with renowned orchestras worldwide and has worked with major soloists such as Lang Lang and Renée Fleming. His discography includes critically acclaimed recordings of Mahler and Shostakovich symphonies, as well as works by Louis Glass and Aram Khachaturian.
Raiskin is also dedicated to mentoring young musicians, frequently collaborating with youth orchestras in various countries. His recent performances include opera productions like "Carmen" and "Don Giovanni," and he has participated in several international music festivals. Despite living abroad for over twenty years, Raiskin maintains strong ties to his Russian roots and occasionally performs with orchestras in his home country.
