Marius Preda, born in 1977 in Bucharest, Romania, is a remarkable musician celebrated as the world’s first jazz soloist on the cimbalom, a traditional Eastern European stringed instrument. Growing up in a family of musicians, his journey began at the age of four when he received a cimbalom from his grandmother, sparking a lifelong passion. He has since blended traditional Romanian folk music with jazz and other genres, mastering not only the cimbalom but also instruments like the vibraphone, violin, accordion, and piano. Marius studied jazz vibraphone at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, graduating with honors, and has toured internationally, sharing the stage with legends such as Arturo Sandoval and Vladimir Cosma.
Known for his energetic virtuosity and inventive fusion of jazz with his cultural roots, Marius has gained global recognition and praise from music icons like Hans Zimmer. His project "Mission Cymbalom" showcases his commitment to establishing the cimbalom as a legitimate jazz instrument. Whether performing solo, with big bands, or orchestras, Marius Preda offers audiences an innovative musical experience that bridges tradition and modernity with heartfelt emotion and technical mastery.
