Poisonblack was a Finnish gothic metal band that emerged from the ashes of the group Charon, founded by singer and bassist Ville Laihiala in 2000 in Oulu, Finland. Initially formed as a side project while Laihiala was still involved in Sentenced, Poisonblack evolved into a full-time endeavor after Sentenced disbanded in 2005. Their sonic trademark was a blend of dark, melancholic metal with a distinct gothic flair, characterized by heavy guitar riffs, atmospheric keyboards, and Laihiala’s deep, brooding vocals.
The band’s debut album "Escapexstacy" (2003) set the tone for their sound, combining heavy metal with gothic rock influences. They continued to build upon this foundation with subsequent albums, gaining a loyal following within Finland and abroad. Albums like "Lust Stained Despair" (2006) and "A Dead Heavy Day" (2008) solidified their presence in the metal scene. The singles “Bear The Cross” and albums such as "Of Rust And Bones" (2010) and "Home Is Where The Sty Is" (2013) further showcased the band's evolution in songwriting and musical complexity. Over the years, Poisonblack became known for their captivating live performances, touring extensively and taking part in numerous festivals. Despite their success, the band announced their split in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of powerful, emotion-laden metal deeply etched with gothic subtleties.
