John Weldon

John Weldon was an English composer and organist born on January 19, 1676, in Chichester, England, and passed away on May 7, 1736, in London. He was educated at Eton College, where he served as a chorister, and later became a pupil of the renowned composer Henry Purcell. Weldon held various prestigious roles, including being the organist at New College, Oxford, and at several notable London churches such as St Bride's and St Martin-in-the-Fields. He succeeded John Blow as organist at the Chapel Royal and was later appointed as an additional composer. Weldon's music includes a mix of sacred and secular choral and vocal works, often reflecting the influence of Purcell with an Italianate flair. His compositions also extended to theatre music, with a significant contribution being a possible reattribution of music for Purcell's semi-opera, *The Tempest*.

Weldon's work, such as *The Judgment of Paris*, continues to be celebrated and performed today by ensembles like the Academy of Ancient Music. However, the recent releases you've provided seem to reflect a broader era of Baroque music rather than specifically his contemporary output. Despite this, Weldon's legacy remains as a notable figure in the history of English classical music.
