Hen Ogledd

Hen Ogledd is a wonderfully inventive experimental pop group from the north of England, primarily the project of musicians Richard Dawson and Sally Pilkington. The duo, often expanded to a quartet with Rhodri Davies and Dawn Bothwell, takes its name from the Old Welsh term for "The Old North," reflecting their Northern roots and a fascination with folklore, futurism, and everyday life. Their sound is a unique and joyful collage, weaving together warm electronics, off-kilter pop melodies, folk sensibilities, and playful improvisation.

Lyrically, they tackle everything from ancient myths and sci-fi scenarios to the quirks of modern technology and community, all delivered with a charming, DIY spirit and a deep sense of humanity. Their albums, from the homemade charm of their self-titled debut to the more polished but no less adventurous "Free Humans" and "Bronze," create a world that feels both strangely familiar and thrillingly new.
