Sankofa

Sankofa is an Australian-born hip-hop artist now based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, known for his genre-blending lyricism and sprawling discography of over 60 releases. Born Stephen Eric Bryden, he earned childhood fame as Geelong’s Lego Champion in 1986 before moving to California, where hip-hop culture deeply influenced his sound. His globetrotting career includes stints in China’s rap scene and a Swedish-produced *Jonah’s Saucony EP* (1998), followed by the chart-topping *Emasculation* (2000) with Kashal-Tee. Recent releases like *The Fire That Wouldn’t Die* (2025) and *Eat Your Heart Out, Feast Your Eyes* showcase his signature mix of Boom-Bap grit and social consciousness, including pandemic-era freestyles addressing racial injustice.

A self-described “turbobooster” MC, Sankofa’s work embodies the Ghanaian Akan concept of learning from the past to build the future—both through empowering verses and collaborations with artists like Memphis Reigns and Tali Rodriguez. His Bandcamp page lists 64 releases, with recent drops like *Carcass Bargain Racks* and *Bragnificent* continuing his streak of energetic, politically charged storytelling.
