Dictaphone

Dictaphone is a Berlin-based project that amalgamates elements from jazz, ambient music, and electronica to create soundscapes that are both introspective and expansive. The project is the brainchild of Oliver Doerell, a maestro of the modern experimental scene, who, along with Roger Döring (clarinet, saxophone), and various other collaborators over the years, crafts minimalist yet emotionally charged compositions. Their work is characterized by a melancholic and cinematic quality, often utilizing a fusion of analog and digital sounds to produce their distinct audible identity.

Since their inception in the early 2000s, Dictaphone has slowly but surely solidified their position in the ambient and electronic niche with an array of releases that showcase their evolution and depth. "Poems From a Rooftop" (2012) furthered their reputation for creating atmospheric narratives without words, while their later releases like "Nacht EP" (2016) and "Vertigo II" (2017) continued to weave moody, textured sounds into their discography. Dictaphone's "M.=addiction" and "APR 70" build upon this foundation, featuring hypnotic loops that draw listeners into their haunting soundscapes. Their most recent album, "Goats & Distortions 5" (2021), stands as a testament to their consistent ability to engage audiences with their thoughtful and immersive approach to music making, deepening their exploration of the spaces between genres and moods.
