The Easybeats

The Easybeats were an Australian rock band hailing from Sydney, formed in 1964. Comprised of members from England, Scotland, and the Netherlands, the group consisted of lead vocalist Stevie Wright, rhythm guitarist George Young, lead guitarist Harry Vanda, bassist Dick Diamonde, and drummer Gordon "Snowy" Fleet. The band's music was characterized by its infectious energy and catchy melodies, helping to establish their reputation as Australia’s answer to the British Invasion bands sweeping the globe at the time.

The Easybeats achieved international acclaim with their hit single "Friday on My Mind" in 1966, a classic that still resonates on classic rock stations and playlists today. The song epitomized the band's dynamic sound and pop sensibility and was a chart-topper in Australia. It also reached high positions on the UK and US charts. Although the group disbanded in 1969, their influence endured, particularly with the songwriting duo of Vanda & Young contributing to the Australian music scene for decades thereafter.
