Johnny Maestro

Johnny Maestro was a celebrated American singer known for his smooth tenor voice and as the frontman for the doo-wop group The Crests and later the band Brooklyn Bridge. Born John Peter Mastrangelo on May 7, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, he began his illustrious music career in the 1950s with The Crests, scoring hits with songs like "16 Candles" which has since become a classic. Throughout the late '50s and '60s, The Crests were among the first interracial groups and enjoyed a series of chart successes.

Later, in 1968, Maestro formed the Brooklyn Bridge, which blended doo-wop harmonies with soul and rock elements. With this group, he continued to leave a mark on the music industry with their most notable hit "The Worst That Could Happen." Albums like "A Date with Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge (Live)" and “This Is… Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge (Live)” represent his ability to captivate audiences with live performances. Even as musical trends evolved, Johnny Maestro’s voice remained a constant, soothing presence, as evident in compilations like "His Very Best" and "For Collectors Only." Until his passing on March 24, 2010, he was adored by fans for his emotional delivery and his contributions to the landscape of American rock and roll and doo-wop.
