Spiritual Kvintet

Spiritual Kvintet is one of the most influential Czech folk and spiritual music groups, originally formed in 1960. Known for their rich vocal harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, they played a crucial role in popularizing spirituals, folk ballads, and traditional songs within the former Czechoslovakia. The group’s lineup evolved over the decades, but their commitment to powerful, lyrically-driven music rooted in both Czech history and global folk traditions remained a constant.

Spiritual Kvintet gained prominence during the 1960s folk revival and continued to perform and release albums for over six decades. Their music often carried themes of truth, faith, and resilience, resonating deeply during periods of political and social change. Their 1990 album, Za svou pravdou stát (To Stand by One's Truth), became particularly well-known in the context of the Velvet Revolution. The group officially concluded their performing career with a farewell tour in 2021, marking the end of an era for Czech folk music.
