Bongzilla

Bongzilla is a stoner metal band hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, known for their doom-laden riffs and the marijuana-laced themes that permeate their music. Formed in 1995, the group consists of members Mike "Muleboy" Makela, Jeff "Spanky" Schultz, Cooter Brown, and Mike "Magma" Henry, who together craft a sound that is as heavy and suffocating as the smoke they muse about. Throughout their career, Bongzilla has become notorious for their unabashed advocacy of cannabis, both recreationally and medicinally, a stance which undoubtedly informs their sludgy, riff-heavy sonic aesthetic.

After a hiatus in the mid-2000s, Bongzilla returned to the scene with renewed vigor, continuing to champion their beloved herb through a string of releases that resonate with the downtuned, slow-motion abrasions of stoner and doom metal. Their discography, which includes albums like "Stash" and "Amerijuanican," is a testament to their undying commitment to the genre and substance. The band's more recent work, such as "Weedsconsin" and the deluxe edition reissue, along with offerings like "Dab City" and "King of Weed," maintains their dedication to creating music that is as potent and pungent as the plant they so frequently celebrate. With "Doom Sessions, Vol. 4," Bongzilla proves their continued relevance in the stoner metal pantheon, delivering crushing rhythms and thunderous melodies that have secured their place as one of the genre's most iconic groups.
