Harry Roy

Harry Roy was a popular British bandleader and clarinetist who made a name for himself during the swing and dance band era of the 1930s and 1940s. Known for his charismatic performances and catchy arrangements, Roy led several successful orchestras, with his music frequently heard on BBC broadcasts and in London dance halls. His band played a mix of hot jazz and dance music and was especially known for its energetic vibe and cheeky humor.

Roy started performing professionally with his brother Sidney, and the duo eventually formed the Darnswells before Harry branched out under his own name. Some of his most well-remembered recordings include "Tiger Rag" and "My Girl's Pussy," the latter reflecting the playful double entendres that were a hallmark of the era. His legacy lives on in the lively records that still capture the spirit of British dance band music from the early 20th century.
