Michael Moore is an accomplished American jazz musician born in 1954 in Arcata, California. He is a multi-reedist known for his significant involvement in the Dutch jazz scene since relocating to Amsterdam in 1982. Moore studied with notable musicians like Jaki Byard and Gunther Schuller at the New England Conservatory of Music and has played in varied musical settings including theater and dance. He is well recognized for his work with the Instant Composers Pool (ICP) Orchestra and has collaborated with prominent artists such as Fred Hersch and Gerry Hemingway. Moore also gained acclaim as a leader of groups like Available Jelly and the Clusone Trio, earning the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize in the Netherlands in 1986.
