Michael Moore

Michael Moore is an accomplished American jazz musician born in 1954 in Arcata, California. He is a multi-reedist known for his significant involvement in the Dutch jazz scene since relocating to Amsterdam in 1982. Moore studied with notable musicians like Jaki Byard and Gunther Schuller at the New England Conservatory of Music and has played in varied musical settings including theater and dance. He is well recognized for his work with the Instant Composers Pool (ICP) Orchestra and has collaborated with prominent artists such as Fred Hersch and Gerry Hemingway. Moore also gained acclaim as a leader of groups like Available Jelly and the Clusone Trio, earning the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize in the Netherlands in 1986. Over his career, he has recorded on more than 50 albums across influential creative music labels and continues to be an active figure in innovative jazz music.

This Michael Moore should not be confused with other artists of the same name, such as the American jazz bassist born in 1945 from Ohio, or the filmmaker Michael Moore. The saxophonist and clarinetist Michael Moore is especially noted for his creative improvisation and contributions to contemporary jazz in Europe.
