Luckey Roberts, born Charles Luckeyeth Roberts in 1887, was a pioneering American pianist and composer who made significant contributions to the early development of jazz and ragtime music. He was known for his incredible speed and dexterity on the piano, earning him the nickname "The Harlem Piano Wizard."
Roberts was a key figure in the Harlem music scene in the early 20th century, composing numerous popular rags and songs. He's credited with influencing many later jazz pianists and helping to lay the groundwork for stride piano. Some of his well-known compositions include "Moonlight Cocktail" and "Pork and Beans." Roberts continued performing and recording well into his later years, leaving a lasting legacy in American music before his death in 1968.
