Alain Lombard

Alain Lombard is a renowned French conductor born on October 4, 1940, in Paris. He studied violin and conducting at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he was mentored by notable instructors such as Line Talleul and Gaston Poulet. Lombard's career has been marked by significant appointments, including his role as principal conductor of the Opéra National de Lyon from 1961 to 1965. He also served as an assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein and was music director of the Greater Miami Philharmonic Orchestra from 1967 to 1975. Additionally, Lombard was involved in the formation of the Opéra du Rhin and held various positions with other orchestras, including the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, where he was principal conductor from 1999 to 2005 and now holds the title of honorary conductor.

Lombard's discography includes a wide range of classical works, such as recordings of Gounod's *Faust*, Puccini's *Turandot*, Mozart's *Così fan tutte*, and more recently, works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Stravinsky.
