Manuel Quiroga

**Manuel Quiroga** (1892–1961) was a Spanish violinist whose dazzling technique and expressive flair made him one of the early 20th century’s most celebrated classical musicians. Born in Pontevedra, he trained at Madrid’s Royal Conservatory before honing his craft in Paris, where he became a standout performer known for his fiery interpretations of works by Sarasate, Paganini, and other virtuoso composers. His career, unfortunately, was derailed by a tragic traffic accident in 1937, but his legacy lives on through historic recordings like those featured on *The Great Violinists* series.

Beyond classical, Quiroga’s connection to Spanish folk traditions shines in reissues like *QUIROGA: Guitar Coplas* and *Versiones orquestales de la copla*, which highlight his role in reimagining the emotive *copla* genre—a style rooted in Spanish balladry—for guitar and orchestra. These remastered tracks, often featuring collaborators like guitarist Carles Trepat, bridge his classical roots with Spain’s vibrant musical soul. A cultural icon, Quiroga’s work remains a testament to artistry cut short but never forgotten.
