Joe Dukie, born Dallas Tamaira, is a New Zealand singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the urban pasifika and dub group Fat Freddy's Drop. Born on February 26, 1974, Tamaira is of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Pākehā descent. He co-founded Fat Freddy's Drop in 1999 and has been instrumental in bringing New Zealand reggae to global prominence. As Joe Dukie, he has collaborated on various projects, including the EP *Midnight Marauders* with DJ Fitchie. Tamaira is also a multi-instrumentalist, known for his soulful voice and artistic contributions to Fat Freddy's Drop's album covers.
In addition to his work with Fat Freddy's Drop, Joe Dukie has explored solo projects and collaborations. His early solo work includes the *Better Than Change EP* released in 1999. He has also collaborated with other artists, showcasing his versatility and passion for music beyond his work with Fat Freddy's Drop. Tamaira's contributions to the music scene have been recognized with awards, including Best Vocalist at the bNet NZ Music Awards in 2005.
