Steven Kamperman

Steven Kamperman is a Dutch composer, clarinetist, and drummer known for his adventurous and versatile approach to music. Starting his musical journey as a jazz improviser, Kamperman developed a deep passion for modal folk music, which led him to collaborate extensively with Turkish artists like Behsat Üvez in the world fusion ensemble Baraná. Over the years, he has explored a rich variety of styles, blending jazz, folk, European drone, and classical influences, often creating a unique personal sound that blends different genres seamlessly. His collaborations include projects like the Horizon Trio, drone duo with hurdy-gurdy player Valentin Clastrier, and the contemporary jazz group HOT Het Orgel Trio.

Kamperman is also an accomplished composer of vocal and instrumental works, having won the Youth Audience Music Award (YAMA) in 2016 for his opera *Roodhapje*. He has composed other notable works such as the *Hildegard Opera* and a new score for the silent film *Der müde Tod*. His recent projects include *City Maps*, a musical journey through an imaginary city incorporating live visuals. Praised as a "wizard of tone colors," Kamperman continues to perform internationally and teach master classes, maintaining a career marked by constant musical exploration and creative innovation.
