The Rosebuds were an indie rock duo formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, consisting of Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp. Known for their blend of indie pop, rock, and folk influences, the band emerged in the early 2000s and quickly gained a following for their heartfelt songwriting and melodic sensibilities. Their 2003 debut album, The Rosebuds Make Out, introduced a sound that was both catchy and emotionally resonant, and they continued to evolve stylistically over the course of several albums, including Night of the Furies (2007), Life Like (2008), and the more introspective Loud Planes Fly Low (2011), which reflected the duo's transition from married couple to creative collaborators.
The Rosebuds built a reputation for their dynamic live performances and artistic versatility, often shifting between synth-pop, folk-rock, and moody ballads. In 2014, they released Sand + Silence, an album produced by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, which brought a shimmering, summery feel to their catalog. Despite lineup changes and personal evolution, The Rosebuds remained a beloved fixture in the indie scene, admired for their honest lyrics and adventurous musical spirit.
