Salem is an American electronic music band from Traverse City, Michigan, formed in 2006 by Heather Marlatt, Jack Donoghue, and John Holland. They're considered pioneers of the witch house genre, blending elements of ethereal electronica with slow Southern hip-hop rhythms. Salem released their debut album "King Night" in 2010, which received critical acclaim and appeared on several year-end lists.
After a period of inactivity, Salem returned in 2020 without Marlatt, releasing a mixtape called "Stay Down" and their second album "Fires in Heaven." Their music is known for its unique blend of electronic, chopped and screwed, dark ambient, and hip-hop elements, creating a distinctive sound that has influenced many artists in the witch house and adjacent genres.
