Delgres

Delgres is a powerful and soul-stirring trio that takes its name from Louis Delgrès, a Creole officer in the French army who fought against Napoleon's re-enslavement decree of 1802. Formed in 2016, the group forges a gritty and compelling sound that blends Guadeloupean styles with blues, creating a unique genre that they have made entirely their own. The band's lineup consists of singer and guitarist Pascal Danaë, drummer Baptiste Brondy, and sousaphone player Rafgee, whose collective musicianship brews a raw and fervent expression of Creole culture infused with historical resonance.

Delgres's music is a homage to the struggles against oppression, a tribute to resilience, and a celebration of cultural identity. Their deeply rooted musical narrative is captured in soulful tracks such as "Mo Jodi" (Extended Gold Edition), which roughly translates to "Die Today," off their 2018 debut album of the same name. Through a discography that includes the pulsating "4:00 AM," the reflective "Mwen enmeou tro fo," and the socially-conscious "Just Vote for Me," Delgres continues to push the boundaries of genre and message. Their work not only serves as a revival of Creole blues but also acts as a conduit for addressing contemporary issues and historical struggles, reverberating from the past into the modern-day. With their release "Promis Le Ciel" and contributions to the "Les Rascals" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Delgres solidifies their role in both the global music scene and the tapestry of storytelling through sound.
