Gérard Zuchetto is a French musician, singer, and composer, born in Carcassonne in 1951, with a deep passion for the medieval lyric poetry and music of the troubadours of Occitania, especially from the 12th and 13th centuries. He’s not only an interpreter but also a researcher and author, specializing in reconstructing and performing the canso repertoire, even creating original melodies for poems that have lost their original music over time. Zuchetto leads the Troubadours Art Ensemble, bringing this rich musical heritage to audiences across Europe, the Middle East, North America, and beyond. He’s also an advocate for Occitan poetry, both medieval and contemporary, using his voice to celebrate the region’s cultural legacy through recordings, concerts, and community projects.
Zuchetto’s career is marked by scholarly dedication and artistic creativity. He’s the founder of several initiatives, such as the CREMM-Trobar Na Loba research center, the Trob’Art Productions association, and the Tròba Vox label, all devoted to preserving and sharing the art of the troubadours and contemporary Occitan poetry. He’s been instrumental in organizing festivals and collaborative programs, including partnerships with universities in the United States and Spain. His discography reflects a broad commitment to the troubadour tradition, featuring both historical works and his own modern arrangements and compositions.
