Josef K was a post-punk band from Edinburgh, Scotland that formed in 1979. They were part of the influential Postcard Records label, alongside other Scottish indie acts like Orange Juice and Aztec Camera. The band's name was inspired by the protagonist in Franz Kafka's novel "The Trial."
Josef K released several singles and one studio album, "The Only Fun in Town," in 1981 before disbanding in 1982. Their sound was characterized by angular guitar work, introspective lyrics, and a blend of post-punk and new wave influences. Despite their short-lived career, Josef K is considered an important part of the Scottish post-punk scene and has influenced many later indie rock bands.
