Lucas Fels
Lucas Fels is a renowned cellist, born in 1962 in Lörrach, Germany. He is celebrated for his contributions to contemporary music, having studied with prominent instructors such as Christoph Henkel, Anner Bijlsma, and Amadeo Baldovino. Fels was a founding member of the ensemble recherche, which has premiered hundreds of new works since its inception in 1985. He has also been a member of the Arditti Quartet since 2006, contributing to its extensive discography of contemporary string quartets. Fels has actively premiered numerous compositions and has worked closely with composers like Wolfgang Rihm and Beat Furrer.
Fels' career is marked by his dedication to teaching and performance. He has been a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main since 2013, focusing on interpretative practice and the mediation of new music. His discography includes over 100 recordings of solo and chamber music from the 20th and 21st centuries, showcasing his versatility and commitment to contemporary music. His involvement with significant festivals and ensembles has further solidified his position as a leading figure in the contemporary music scene.
