Tei Shi

Tei Shi, whose real name is Valerie Teicher Barbosa, is a multitalented singer-songwriter and producer known for her ethereal sounds and R&B-influenced indie pop. Born on October 4, 1989, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tei Shi grew up across various locations, including Bogotá, Vancouver, and Boston, before basing her artistic career in New York City. Her multicultural upbringing and exposure to different music styles are reflected in the diversity of her sound, often blending English and Spanish within her lyricism.

Tei Shi first garnered major attention with the release of her debut extended play "Saudade" in 2013, which included the standout track "M&Ms." Her momentum continued to build with the 2015 single "Bassically," which received critical acclaim and showcased her ability to create haunting melodies intertwined with assertive beats. Her full-length album, "Crawl Space," was released in 2017 to positive reviews, solidifying Tei Shi's place within the alternative music scene. With a distinctive voice that slips effortlessly from delicate vulnerability to commanding empowerment, Tei Shi's music is characterized by a combination of sultry vocal work, layered soundscapes, and introspective lyrics. Among her more recent works are the singles "Die 4 Ur Love," which comes with a deluxe version, the Spanish-language track "Johnny (Español)," and the brooding, bilingual "MONA LISA (Spanglish)," which demonstrate her range and willingness to experiment across different genres and languages.
