Layup is an American music project formed by singer Chris Henderson and producer Chad Copelin, who first joined forces when Copelin began producing albums for Henderson’s band Bronze Radio Return in 2009. The pair quickly developed a strong creative chemistry and, despite both staying busy with their own projects—Copelin producing for chart-topping artists and Henderson touring with his band—they eventually set aside time to craft music together under the name Layup. Their sound is designed to be accessible and relatable, with the duo aiming for an “easy” and digestible vibe, inspired by the straightforwardness of a basketball layup. Layup’s music has been featured in commercials for big brands and TV shows, all recorded at Copelin’s Blackwatch Studios in Norman, Oklahoma.
Their partnership thrives on creativity, mutual inspiration, and a friendly sense of competition, resulting in music that’s as inviting as it is polished. Since launching the project, Layup has released tracks including “Neo Romance” (and its remixes), “Urban Traveller,” and “Functionalism,” all of which highlight their signature blend of indie influence and universal appeal. Their work continues to resonate widely, landing placements in media and commercials and connecting with listeners who appreciate honest, well-crafted songs.
