Magnar Mangersnes

Magnar Mangersnes was a renowned Norwegian organist and choral conductor, born on October 31, 1938, and passed away on January 9, 2023. He served as the domkantor at Bergen Cathedral from 1971 to 2008 and founded the Bergen Domkantori in 1971, leading it until its dissolution in 2012. Mangersnes was also the conductor of the Bergen Oratorio Choir. He was instrumental in organizing the annual Kirkemusikkdagene and Orgelfestuken in Bergen Cathedral, starting in 1997. His musical career included a strong focus on Bach's works, having performed 160 Bach cantatas with various ensembles. Mangersnes received several prestigious awards, including the Grieg Prize in 1985 and the St. Olav's Order, First Class, in 2000.

Mangersnes' discography includes albums such as *Skandinavia*, *Underet*, and *Bach/Schönberg/Valen*, all featuring the Bergen Domkantori. His contributions to Norwegian music were recognized with multiple awards, including the Bergen Municipal Art Prize in 1993 and the Bergen Municipal Honorary Prize in 2007.
