She is best known as the founder and leader of the Ensemble Belcanto, a pioneering vocal ensemble specializing in new and experimental vocal music. Spohr studied singing at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart, where she also learned piano, viola, speech training, percussion, and conducting. Her ensemble has premiered numerous works by contemporary composers, contributing significantly to the development of new vocal music. Additionally, Spohr has been involved in various other musical endeavors, including her role as director of the "Tage Alter Musik" festival in Kelkheim from 2002 to 2013.
Spohr's work includes notable recordings such as Hildegard von Bingen's "Ordo Virtutum" and Adriana Hölszky's "Vokale Kammermusik."
