Shirin Majd

Shirin Majd is an Iranian-born classically trained singer, songwriter, and the Artistic Director of the Sweet Sound Ensemble. Born in Tehran, she began studying classical singing at the age of seventeen and joined the choir of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. She went on to study in Armenia and later at the Universitat Mozarteum Salzburg and the Johann-Joseph Fux Konservatorium in Graz, Austria. In 2011, she moved to Australia to pursue further education in operatic performance and vocal pedagogy at the Queensland Conservatorium. Notably, Shirin Majd has been active in promoting cultural awareness and issues affecting women from the Middle East through her music. She debuted her show "Kooch: Songs of Migration" in 2019 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in Brisbane, Australia, with composer Mastaneh Nazarian. Her work often blends traditional and modern elements across multiple languages.

Shirin Majd continues to work on various musical projects, including "Stolen Identity," a multi-art project focused on sharing real-life stories of women worldwide. Her music often highlights themes of migration, women's rights, and cultural fusion. Her recent works include collaborations and solo performances across Australia and internationally. Her dedication to using music as a form of activism has been recognized through platforms like WOW Sounds Australia. Shirin Majd's distinctive voice and artistic vision have captivated audiences globally, reflecting her commitment to cultural exchange and social impact.
