Noel Rawsthorne

Noel Rawsthorne was a celebrated British organist and composer, best known for his long association with Liverpool Cathedral, where he served as Organist and Master of the Choristers from 1955 to 1980. A student of the renowned organist Marcel Dupré in Paris, Rawsthorne brought a vibrant playing style and a flair for composition that made his music beloved in organ circles. His works, such as "Hornpipe Humoresque" and "Dance Suite," are playful, accessible, and staples in the repertoire of many organists around the world.

Beyond his performance duties, Rawsthorne was a prolific composer of sacred and liturgical music, contributing numerous pieces that blend traditional church forms with a touch of modern charm. His recordings and arrangements continue to bring the majestic sound of the English cathedral organ tradition to listeners everywhere, and his legacy lives on in both his music and the many students he inspired.
