Timberline

Timberline was a country-folk rock band co-founded in 1971 by Jim Salestrom and his older brother Chuck Salestrom in Kearney, Nebraska. Jim, who was just 15 at the time, was the lead singer and primary songwriter, and the band also included Bill Howland, Dugg Duggan, and Craig Link on instruments and vocals. They gained early traction with their album *The Great Timber Rush* released on CBS Epic and toured nationally, even opening for Dolly Parton, which helped launch Jim Salestrom’s music career. The band was known for their tight-knit friendship and musical camaraderie, creating a blend of heartfelt and authentic American folk and country rock sounds during the 1970s. Although Timberline eventually disbanded in the late '70s due to changing musical trends, their legacy lives on, especially through Jim Salestrom’s long and influential solo career and his work with Dolly Parton’s band.

Jim Salestrom continued to perform worldwide after Timberline, becoming a beloved figure in the Colorado music scene and beyond. He was known not only for his music but for his warmth and community spirit, often performing in schools and local venues. His songs frequently celebrated life in the Rocky Mountains, and he was recognized with Emmy Awards and Grammy nominations throughout his career. Timberline had a 50th reunion in 2021, where the members reunited to celebrate their enduring friendship and musical journey.
