Mahmoud Khalil Al Hosary

Mahmoud Khalil Al Hosary was one of the most revered Qur'an reciters in the Islamic world. Born in Egypt in 1917, he became known for his impeccable Tajweed (rules of Qur'anic recitation) and a recitation style that combined deep spirituality with crystal-clear articulation. Al Hosary was one of the first reciters to have officially recorded the entire Qur'an in various styles, including murattal (slow, measured recitation) and mujawwad (melodic recitation). His recordings have since become foundational for students and teachers of Qur'anic recitation worldwide.

What made Sheikh Al Hosary stand out was his commitment to accuracy and his role in preserving the oral tradition of the Qur'an. He was also known for advocating the importance of teaching Qur'an recitation according to proper phonetics and rules.
