Miguel Fleta was a celebrated Spanish operatic tenor, renowned for his expressive voice and passionate performances during the early 20th century. Born in 1897 in Albalate de Cinca, Spain, he rose to international fame in the 1920s and became particularly known for his roles in Italian opera, especially in works by Puccini and Verdi. Fleta was the original singer of the title role in Puccini's Turandot at La Scala in 1926, under the baton of Arturo Toscanini.
Fleta's voice was admired for its lyrical warmth and dramatic intensity, qualities that made him a standout figure in the operatic world of his time. Despite a relatively short career—he retired from the international stage in the early 1930s—his recordings have kept his legacy alive, showcasing his unique timbre and vocal artistry. His influence continues to be felt in the world of opera, particularly among Spanish tenors who followed in his footsteps.
