Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, a scion of the esteemed Dagar family, represents the 20th generation of dedicated Dhrupad singers—a genre considered the oldest still practiced in Hindustani classical music. Born on April 15, 1969, into the Dagar lineage, which has played a pivotal role in preserving and nurturing the Dhrupad tradition for over 500 years, Wasifuddin was meticulously trained in the nuances of Dhrupad singing.

Wasifuddin's tutelage in this austere and spiritual art form began under the careful guidance of his father, Ustad N. Faiyazuddin Dagar, and later his uncle, Ustad N. Zahiruddin Dagar, both of whom were renowned Dhrupad vocalists of the Dagarvani tradition. With the passing of his father when Wasifuddin was a teenager, he continued to learn under his uncle, blossoming into a maestro in his own right.
