Quatuor Athenaeum-Enesco

Quatuor Athenaeum-Enesco is a distinguished French string quartet ensemble, initially formed in 1979 under the name "Quatuor Athenaeum" before adopting the "Enesco" title to honor the legendary Romanian composer Georges Enesco. The quartet quickly established itself on the international stage, thanks in part to their studies with prominent musicians like Sándor Végh and Sergiu Celibidache. Their repertoire is extensive and versatile, spanning classical and romantic works from the 18th to the 20th century, with a strong emphasis on chamber music from composers such as Vierne, Schumann, Bartók, Dvořák, Franck, and Chausson, as reflected in their recent recordings. They are also known for premiering and championing contemporary compositions written specifically for them by notable composers such as Philippe Hersant and Jean-Jacques Werner. The ensemble has performed at major international festivals and collaborated with many renowned artists over the years, cementing their reputation as one of the leading quartets in the chamber music world.
