Initially, the band began as a trio consisting of Maurizio Carucci (vocals and keyboard), Francesco Bacci (bass), and Simone Bertuccini (guitar). Over the years, Ex-Otago grew in popularity and also in numbers, expanding to a quintet with the inclusion of members Riccardo Livorno (drums) and Stefano Tirone (saxophone and programming). Their music features an eclectic mix of pop, electronic sounds, and ironic yet insightful lyrics dealing with love, societal issues, and personal growth.
The band's journey through the Italian music scene has been marked by continuous evolution and experimentation, although they've always maintained their distinctive blend of catchy melodies and thoughtful themes. Ex-Otago has released a steady stream of albums and singles to critical acclaim, including their more recent tracks like "La puzza della città," and the collaborative effort "Mondo Panico" featuring the rapper Fabri Fibra. They've gained a reputation for their energetic live performances and their ability to connect with audiences through their sincere and often uplifting songs, such as "Con te" and "Tutto Ciò Che Abbiamo." Their song "Solo Una Canzone" solidified their place in the hearts of many Italian music lovers, showcasing their talent for creating tracks that resonate deeply and endure over time.
